CAT - Admission Process
|
The Common Admission Test (CAT) is conducted by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and is the first step in the process of seeking admission to the IIMs.
The CAT is considered as one of the most important national standard for entrance to management institutes. Apart from the nine Indian Institutes of Management over 140 other Management Institutes use the CAT for short listing candidates.
Undoubtedly, the mother of all examinations, the CAT has the widest coverage in Quantitative, Verbal and Reasoning areas of testing.
The CAT exam is of 2 ½ hours and has only 3 sections with 20 questions, each of 3 marks, in each section. There is negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. Proficiency in all the sections is essential for getting a call from any of the IIMs.
The CAT is now conducted online beginning End October through November. Students have to register online for the test through http://www.catiim.in
Students can chose the slot they would like to test, and the venue where they would like to appear.
Raw CAT test scores are arrived at, before working out the Equated Scores, which are then transfered to a common Scaled Scores.
IIMs have different selection criteria for shortlisting, and do give weightage to Prior Academic Record, and to Work Experience for shortlisting students for GD & PI Stage.
